Sreenidi Deccan cruise past TRAU to maintain title push

14th February, Hyderabad: Sreenidi Deccan Football Club continued their quest for the I-League championship with a 3-0 win over TRAU Football Club of Manipur here at the Deccan Arena on Wednesday. Goals from Rilwan Hassan, David Castaneda and Brandon Vanlalremdika gave the Deccan Warriors all three points against the Red Pythons and kept them close to the top of the I-League table, with 26 points from 13 matches.

It was TRAU who started the brighter, midfielder Deepak Singh having the first shot in the 10th minute which just whistled wide of the post. But Sreenidi Deccan slowly grew into the game and Lalromawia came close with a weak effort after some intricate one-touch passing. The deadlock was broken in the 35th minute when winger Hassan pounced on a defensive error and coolly finished past the goalkeeper. Less than 10 minutes later, an unmarked Castaneda headed in a corner from Kean Lewis to double the lead before half time.

The second half was a much tighter affair as TRAU tried to find a way back into the match but the Sreenidi Deccan defence held firm. New signing Brandon was sent on for his debut at the fag end of the match but he made his mark, scoring a superb solo goal in stoppage time to put the icing on the cake on a clinical performance.

Sreenidi Deccan FC will travel to Mizoram to take on Aizawl FC on February 19 in their next I-League match.
